Pediatricians for Central America’s Children (PFCAC) is 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of Latin America’s children. PFCAC conducts its fundamental work in El Salvador.
PFCAC embraces two vital goals:
The primary goal is to provide medical care directly to children whose health and physical well-being have been severely neglected. The organization sends medical mission teams twice a year to El Salvador
The second objective is to promote self-sufficiency and long-lasting change in health care systems by helping rural Central American communities build and sustain local health clinics, and by improving the resources available to both community residents and healthcare workers.
The medical team seeks both immediate and long-term solutions. Its unique model links the host government, local officials, local healthcare providers and local non-governmental community-based organizations. Understanding that medical care must be cost effective as well evidence based, PFCAC is constantly looking for avenues to improve the delivery of both its direct medical care as well as initiating preventive health and public health initiatives. Through teaching of local doctors and community leaders, PFCAC leaves behind an enduring presence even when they are not physically present.
